In this paper, different HVDC system faults are analysed and the rationing criteria based on wavelet modulus maxima for the identification of the HVDC system faults are proposed. The simulation results are discussed. The results show that the application of wavelet technique leads to a proper and more reliable solution for fault identification. The results also provide a good basis for the new high-speed protection of HVDC lines.
