Network planning and optimization in the third generation wireless networks

We review the technical challenges and requirements of network planning and optimization techniques for third generation wireless systems. In particular, we highlight the key differences of network planning techniques for second generation and third generation wireless networks. Moreover, we propose a new approach to wireless network design in which the physical characteristics of wireless systems in addition to network configuration are taken into account
