Wideband CDMA has been selected as the access technique for the next generation communication system. Consequently, it has received a significant amount of attention in provision of advanced algorithms for improved performance. Accurate power control is one the most important requirements of the CDMA systems. In this paper, two new adaptive step-size algorithms for controlling the transmitted power of the mobile stations in a CDMA-based cellular system are presented. The performance of the two algorithms are compared with that of the conventional and their superiority clearly demonstrated
