This paper presents the implementation of a wireless scheduling algorithm that provides backbone quality of service (QoS) support to mobile stations. The algorithm described maps all existing ATM traffic types into priorities and weights for a multiclass priority fair queue (MPFQ) scheduler. The MPFQ scheduler is designed to operate in a wireless base station. A prototype driver has been developed for the Netwave AirSurfer Plus Wireless PCMCIA card. Simulation results are included that demonstrate the advantages in reduced delay for real-time traffic flows when using the MPFQ scheduler instead of a fair queue scheduler.
