The paper deals with new diagnostic tools for after-laying tests of power cables under on-site conditions. For diagnosis tests of medium voltage cables the CDA-procedure (complex discharge analysing procedure) has been developed, which is based on a high efficiency detection and location of PD events by application of a nonconventional transient voltage stress. For assessment of the reliability of high voltage cable and accessories a new system for sensitive PD detection under noisy condition has been developed, where directional coupler sensors are used, operating in the VHF range
