A multipath propagation environment is inevitable in mobile radio. Frequency-selective fading is serious hindrance in high-speed TDMA transmission because the delay difference between multipath signals is large in comparison with the symbol duration. This paper presents a novel adaptive antenna for mobile radio. The adaptive antenna has several weight vectors which resolve the multipath signals in the spatial domain. The resolved multipath signals are combined equalizing the delay difference. We also consider the combining coefficients in detail. The proposed adaptive antenna performs path diversity in the spatial domain. Computer simulation results under several scenarios show that the adaptive antenna exhibits excellent performance. We emphasize the importance of the combining coefficients
