Summary form only given. We have demonstrated all-optical switching at 10 Gbits/s using nonlinearities in SOAs biased at transparency. This switch requires high input powers relative to switches based on SOAs biased in the gain regime, but degradation of the output signal as a result of saturation and carrier population effects may be reduced at transparency.
