A novel combination of coplanar waveguide-fed double bow-tie slot antenna and artificial magnetic conductor, which meets the requirements of 5.8 GHz super high frequency radio frequency identification tag antenna usable on metallic objects is presented. The electrical characteristics of the embedded structure are evaluated using finite-element method and method of moment techniques. The manufactured prototypes are characterised in terms of return loss, gain and radiation pattern measurements in an anechoic chamber, both alone and on a metallic plate.
