In this paper we describe the advantages that NFC technology offers for the development of smart universities ambient for the compliance of European universities with the EHEA guidelines. We propose a set of university scenarios where NFC could apply and how NFC could bring the university to the society, building smart university environments located anywhere and offering university services at any time. Besides, we describe some of the current NFC applications developed at the University of Cordoba.
