An equivalent circuit model is proposed to analyze the address power accurately in plasma display panels (PDPs). Considering that the address power is mostly caused by switching of MOSFETs in the address ICs, detailed theoretical analysis of the address power in PDPs at several typical patterns is performed based on the proposed circuit model. The analysis results agree with the experimental measurements very well, which prove the effectiveness of the model. The analysis also shows that the address power is proportional to the change rate of address data between adjacent lines and address data difference between adjacent columns in succeeding lines respectively, while the average picture level (APL) has no influence on address power.
