The author describes how the gas chamber system of SF6-insulated medium-voltage switchgear of the series type is provided with features which improves the dependability of the gaseous insulation and considerably facilitates monitoring of the gas chambers during operation. All three poles are surrounded by a common enclosure, which means the enclosure is `three-pole'. This design therefore allows system complements tailored to the requirements of medium voltage. In addition, metal partitions are fitted between the poles of the three-pole conductor system, which provide a three-pole enclosure with features approaching those of single-pole enclosures
