A new scheme to apply the concept of BitTorrent protocol to exchange routing information and packets among the nodes of the ad hoc network for multicasting is proposed. This routing protocol is called multicast BitTorrent enabled ad hoc network (MBEAN) routing protocol. Here, each member node of the multicast group gives priority to the routing of pieces of information through member nodes and existing forwarding nodes rather than through non-forwarding nodes. Thus, nodes acting as non-forwarding nodes for a multicast group have sufficient power saved for forwarding other unicast messages in the network. Simulation results obtained as a result of implementing this concept to unicasting are discussed.
