The majority of the errors in cellular and PCS-based wireless location systems happen due to the effect of non-line-of-sight (NLOS) propagation. In order to minimize the location estimation error to mitigate the NLOS effect under such conditions, we propose a simplified location technique for urban areas. The algorithm is based on an optimization of a set of nonlinear equations with inequality constraints. Simulation results over different urban schemes show that the algorithm provides considerable improvement over traditional location algorithms.
