Software developers would rather not have to learn multiple interfaces and programming environments to work with different vendors' tools. This has encouraged the use of the multivendor integrated development environment (IDE). The article discusses the case for the development of a Java IDE. It describes 2 candidate IDE, NetBeans and Eclipse. Oracle has submitted to Sun a compromise Java IDE proposal designed to work with both NetBeans and Eclipse.
