In order to control the position, speed, acceleration and force of a Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor (PM-LSM) for single shaft ultra-deep level mining, a vector control strategy is being developed. The machine must first be modelled both mathematically and by using various simulation software to calculate the machine parameters before the system can be implemented. Various methods of finding the machine's parameters are discussed. Only steady state conditions have been investigated thus far.
