Determination of transient overvoltages caused by switching of high voltage motors

Results of measurements are presented for switching-induced overvoltages at the terminal of machines installed in power plants. Actual front-time and amplitude data of the voltage transients were measured. The results obtained are examined in a discussion of voltage test levels used on the insulation of motor windings and methods of motor-winding protection.<
