DVB/Internet interoperability and new possibilities in distance learning

Presents a Web-based personalized learning assistant (PLA) developed as a prototype of a distance learning application, which uses a multi-purpose multimedia storage device to store a huge amount of multimedia data locally. The storage device is an advanced digital VCR or set-top box (STB) which is also a gateway to the Internet. Because of this, it enables DVB/Internet interoperability, which offers new possibilities in distance learning. Interactive Web-based courses can be enriched by quality video segments from educational TV programmes broadcast over DVB and recorded on the STB.
