Incorporating VHDL into the digital curriculum

Summary form only given. Traditional courses in digital design, especially in engineering technology, have focused on and used TTL logic integrated circuits in lecture and lab. It is still difficult to find a textbook suitable for a technology program that is not based on these chips. However, TTL is very rarely used in industry today. This work in progress report discusses the planned implementation of advanced programmable logic devices (PLDs) and associated software into the digital curriculum, including introductory courses.
