Service clock recovering in CBR services: adaptive vs SRTS

One requirement for ATM networks is the support for the provision of any constant and continuous bit rate service. This paper examines the evolution of the different alternatives considered within the standardization bodies for the service provision (AAL types 1 and 5) and it will focus on the features of the two service clock recovery methods (Adaptive and SRTS). An implementation of the Adaptive method is presented and evaluated in both ideal and stressed network conditions. Results show that, under the related test conditions, the adaptive method provides a high quality recovered clock that fulfills the ITU-T G.823 Recommendation for frequencies above 5 mHz.
