The impacts of traffic flow control on CO/sub 2/ emissions from passenger cars using dynamic network model

This paper examines the efficiency of advanced traffic management techniques in reducing carbon dioxide (CO/sub 2/) emissions from passenger cars. Towards this goal, a microscopic traffic simulation model was built for Toronto to track individual vehicles' movements in detail for the duration of their entire trip. In order to predict the level of emissions, a simple and robust microscopic CO/sub 2/ emissions model was used. By integrating the emissions model into the traffic simulation model the possible impacts of controlling instantaneous vehicular operating conditions on CO/sub 2/ emissions were investigated.
