Experimental and theoretical investigations of interferometric noise power penalties in digital optical systems

Power penalties produced by interferometric noise have been theoretically and experimentally investigated at 2.48 Gbps. The limitations of the Gaussian probability density function for Bit-Error-Rate (BER) calculations are presented. Numerical simulations of multiple convolutions are compared with the experimental results.
