Resource allocation and call blocking in mobility network architectures

This paper investigates the effects of mobility on the resource allocation and call blocking in mobility network architectures. On the basis of a stochastic analytical framework, we determine the probability distribution of the number of radio links used within the cell as a function of all the mobility related parameters (viz. average mobile speed, mean cell radius, mean call holding time, direction of motion, call drop rate, distribution of call location within a cell and soft handoff behaviour). This allows the network planner to determine the exact number of channel signal processing (CSP) elements to be allocated for each cell. Simulations for a CDMA mobility network have been conducted to verify the generality of our analytical framework.
