Antenna remoting over optical- fiber using a bus architecture

All present RF transport over fiber systems have been based on a point-to-point star architecture, so that every remote antenna is tied to the base station by its own pair of fibers. In this paper we present results on a bus architecture system, which allows a single pair of optical fibers to serve more than one remote antenna. Figure 1 compares the typical star architecture with our bus architecture. The bus architecture has the advantage of requiring only one pair of fibers from the base station to the first remote. This conservation of fiber will be especially beneficial in a situation where there is a cluster of antenna remoting sites or microcells.
