The technological revolution and the future of the third world

The present revolutionary wave involves a whole cluster of emerging technologies that not only evolve quite rapidly but are highly interactive and diffusive and lead toward a postindustrial, information-based society. Today's emerging technologies have within them the capacity to go a long way toward solving many of the problems confronting developing countries that at present hinder their socioeconomic development. The factors that are hampering the ability of developing countries to derive all the benefits of the new technologies are examined. Their destructive impact on local cultures is also addressed.<
