Innovative Helical Wrap Installation of Fiber Optic Cable

A fiber optic link, spun helically onto a phase conductor and lightning shield (static) wire of an existing 115KV transmission line, replaces an unreliable direct current. Pilot wire relay channel in a developmental project of the NYSEG Corporation. The resulting installation, now completed, was the first of its kind in the U.S. and is the first anywhere that employs a fiber cable helically wrapped around a lightning shield wire.
