Synthesis of high-resolution narrow-band Fourier spectra from low-resolution transforms

The practical limit to fast Fourier transform (FFT) size imposed by available computer memory limits the achievable spectral resolution. However, it is pointed out, the coefficients of a large transform can be directly synthesized from the coefficients of successive smaller transforms over the same frequency range.<
