Epitaxial growth of NiZn ferrite on barium ferrite particles

Homogeneous (Ni/sub 0.5/Zn/sub 0.5/)/sub x/Fe/sub 3-x/O/sub 4/ epitaxial layers were grown on Co-Ni-Ti-Sn substituted barium ferrite (BaFe) by aging neutral suspensions at 95/spl deg/C under N/sub 2/ atmosphere. In all compositions the coercivity (H/sub c/) increased remarkably within 10 minutes, followed by a slow decay for x/spl les/0.6. No change in full width half maximum (/spl Delta/H) of dM/dH versus H curve with reaction time was observed for x/spl ges/0.6. The specific saturation magnetization (/spl sigma//sub s/) of composition with x/spl les/0.6 increased with the reaction time, while rapidly decreased in 10 minutes for x>0.6, followed by an increase. Doping Fe/sub 3/O/sub 4/ with Ni and Zn has dramatically improved homogeneity of epitaxial layer and thermal stability of composite BaFe. Accordingly, optimized magnetic properties and thermal stability were obtained at x=0.6.
