3-D temperature distribution in ultrasound interstitial heating with three applicator array

We present finite element simulations of 3-D temperature pattern in ultrasound interstitial heating of the brain tissue. Instrumentation to produce the heating is a three-waveguide-applicator array. For asymmetric boundary condition, i.e., heating of malignant tissue to the brain side, our methodology helps to find optimum placement of the array. It enables also calculation of individual power at each applicator resulting in improved heating pattern and reduced heat toxicity.
