Measurements in nondestructive evaluation: An interdisciplinary subject dedicated to understanding flaws and failures

In man's continuing efforts to build better machines, it has become increasingly clear that we must put more effort into the safety and reliability of the machines. A relatively new discipline, especially to electrical and computer engineers, is the area of Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE). NDE is dedicated to understanding the measurement of flaws and the failure of materials. It is an interdisciplinary subject which draws upon physics, metallurgy, and many engineering areas. For engineers who like to incorporate a variety of experimental and theoretical techniques into their work, NDE provides a rigorous challenge.
