Progress in seismic verification of test ban treaties

The ability of seismic methods to monitor underground nuclear explosions and implications for test ban verification are discussed. Technical aspects of seismic monitoring are examined, and seismic-based yield estimation is explained. Three major developments since 1987 concerning technical issues, all providing consistent evidence about the accuracy of seismic methods and increasing confidence in them, are described.<
