A qualified analysis of traditional and technology assisted learning - An IT industry outlook

To furnish the demanding “just-in-time training” for globally spread employees, corporate sectors don't just rely on traditional classroom training alone. They have switched on to virtual, e-learning and informal learning; even though ubiquitous ways of learning is proved cost effective. In this study, a framework to measure comparative effectiveness between E-learning (Technology assisted learning) and other learning environments (traditional learning) are showcased. The elements to prove convenience of training on e-learning was for on-demand availability, reusability, location transparency, learning objects segmentation and user controlled learning adaptability. Manager with the ability to implement training on e-learning viewed it as a cost effective mechanism to enhance the competencies of his team. Various metrics and measurements related to learning: Cumulative Learning Performance Index (CLPI) scores, Percentage of trainings for Traditional Learning (TL) vs. Technology Assisted Learning (TAL) modes were derived and are projected here. Assessment methodologies are based on Kirkpatrick's evaluation model, showcasing Pre & Post- tests conducted for courses over a period of time. In this paper, “training and learning”, “employee and learner” are used alternatively; both referring the same.
