Ray tracing based on the method of images for propagation simulation in cellular environments

The next decades will experience expansion, digitization and an increase in the bandwidth of both outdoor and indoor wireless communication systems in all continents of the Earth. Freedom of motion, decrease in the number of wires and cables both inside and outside of buildings, as well as the ease of introduction of new services, minimizing the need for expensive structural modifications, can be listed among the advantages of these systems. On the other hand, they will operate in an environment increasingly dominated by interference. During their planning stage, careful estimates of both temporal and spatial statistics of intensities and delays due to multipath will be required, considering the features of the environment where the systems will operate. Computer simulation, capable of adequately modeling the site of interest and of providing the required information, will be an essential tool in the design of these systems, since they will completely and economically analyze different possible options for the same system. The ray tracing model described is based on the method of images and has the potential to perform the above tasks.
