Non-linear robust control of a series resonant DC/DC converter for bio-medical applications

This paper examines the control of a series resonant DC/DC converter using an active resonant tank for application to non-invasive, biomedical energy transmission systems. A novel switched capacitor based topology is used to design a controller for the converter. The output voltage regulation problem is cast as a robust disturbance rejection problem. Mathematical modeling results in a small signal linearized set of equations which describe the dynamics of the converter. A first order controller with a non-linear element is developed using the small signal model and tested against the original non-linear system. Results presented show the effectiveness of the extremely simple controller which is very advantageous from the viewpoint of minimizing size and complexity in practical implementations.
