Microstrip ring antennas for PCS application

Since the mid-1970s, microstrip antennas have received a lot of attention, and significant achievement has been made to improve what is called the 'inherent' narrow bandwidth and low gain. However, research in this field is still quite active. In contrast with traditional antenna technology, microstrip antennas provide the potential to form arrays, active antennas, and polarization diversity. New designs and applications are expected in the coming wireless and personal communication systems. We introduce a practical microstrip ring antenna. In addition to having improved bandwidth and high gain, the design of the antenna and its feed line makes it easy to form linear arrays and planar arrays. The radiation patterns are also modeled by using a sinusoidal current distribution approach, and the calculated results closely matched the measured far fields of the antennas.
