Optimal measurer of the scattering phase matrix

In atmospheric optics the scattering phase matrix D relates the Stokes vector of the radiation from a source, S/sub s/=[I/sub s/Q/sub s/U/sub s/V/sub s/]/sup T/ where T is the transposition and the Stokes vector of the scattered radiation S/sub r/=[I/sub r/Q/sub r/U/sub r/V/sub r/] coming to the receiver by the relation; S/sub r/=DS/sub s/. A method used in the optimal measurer of the scattering phase matrix makes it possible to determine the elements D from the values of the signal intensity on the detector, without any additional signal transformations. Then the algorithm controlling polarization elements is optimal because it provides the minimum errors in measuring due to not exact production of polarization elements as well as their not exact installation. The authors explore this problem further which is of importance for optical remote sensing.
