SAND is a naturally occurring granular material composed of finely divided mineral particles. It's basically divided into fine and coarse-fine grains of sand range from 0.0625 –0.5 mm while coarse ranges from 0.5 –2mm.Dredging is the repositioning of soil from a marine environment with the aid of special equipment called DREDGER in order to initiate infrastructural or ecological improvement. Repositioning varies from removal, transportation, placement, to soil treatment and soil means sediments, silt, sand, gravel, etc. SAND plays a very vital role in the lives of human as most of the world's largest building construction works wouldn't be without sand, a few enumeration of the uses of sand will make this clearer. USES: Road construction and building industry, foundry and molding factories, glass industry sandblasting industry, water purification, agricultural purposes , beach nourishment and protection, military use, etc. The dredging of sand from some depth below water level has raised a lot of questions, amongst these are why is sand taken from the sea bed if its readily available on the earth surface and why embark on it when the cost effect is so huge? In response to this, scientific research has proven that the two fundamental reasons are ecological and demand for quality sand by most users. Furthermore, the study of geology shows that the different kinds of sand are as a result of the difference between the origin where they withered from and the means by which they were transported. During the process of withering and erosion the two major sources of transportations are by wind and by water. Sand which are transported by water and wind through a long distance are rounded, this is why the desert sand are fine and rounded whereas in the sea there are coarse sand(better quality sand) known as sharp sand at some distance from the shore because of the effect of water flow. The ecological disadvantages of excavating the limited landscape to serve all the need for sand is much more than the danger posed by a careful dredging of sand from the sea bed thus, leaving us with little or no option but dredging from the sea bed
