A digital audio production system

The digital broadcast studio has awaited for some time an audio production system capable of handling large-scale events. The key is the capacity to handle a very large number of inputs & outputs without the need for a complex and expensive matrix switcher. In the system described, digital signals are bundled into high-capacity serial links that join physically remote I/O resources with 95 channels of full-specification audio in each direction. Multiple links, representing a very large number of sources, are managed and distributed by a resource-hub capable of supporting multiple digital and analogue consoles. The system is synchronous and video-locked, with sample-rate converted/resynchronised inputs and outputs where necessary. All processing is digital and fully automated. The console may be reset globally or selectively. Remote microphone amplifiers are controlled directly from the console to provide an optimised analogue signal to a high-precision convertor. Programmable control and a comprehensive events system allows detailed control of, and from, external equipment.<
