A new methodology for using single microprocessor to control DC stepper motors

Single microprocessor can be used to control DC stepper motors with limited efforts. This application describes the use of single microprocessor to control the speed, direction and rotation angle of a stepper motor. In addition to the single microprocessor, this application requires a quite high current peripheral driver (motor driver) to meet the high current needs of the stepper motor. This single microprocessor controls the stepper motor by sending pulse sequences to the motor winding in response to control commands. Commands executed by the code in this application include: single step the motor in a clockwise or counterclockwise (i.e. rotate the rotor through a certain number of degrees) run the motor continuously at one of four speeds (25 steps/second, 100 steps/second, 200 steps/second, and 400 steps/second) in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction, and stop the motor.<
