Smart packaging struggles for shelf space [Analysis]

Intelligent packaging technology that could play a big part in reducing the amount of food wasted by British households is failing to gain a foothold among the country's biggest retailers. New approaches to packaging were identified in a recent Cabinet Office Strategy Unit document as having the potential to improve food safety and reduce waste. The report was the result of a ten-month project commissioned by Prime Minister Gordon Brown to identify the key food-related issues facing the UK.
