Aerosol retrieval based on photopolarimetry

Photopolarimetric measurements of atmospheric aerosols are interpreted based on an idea that aerosol characteristics can be estimated in terms of the scattering behavior. The radiance and polarization degree of atmospheric aerosols were measured by using the portable photopolarimeter (FPR2000) at wavelengths 0.559, 0.662 and 0.811 /spl mu/m, which correspond to the wavelengths of the optical sensor (OPS) on board Japanese Earth Resources Satellite (JERS-1). Therefore the measurements are available not only for the ecological study of the atmosphere but also for the truth data of JERS-1 observations.<
