Practical applications of CPW in radar and electronic warfare sub systems

Making CPW elements behave more like ideal distributed elements, enabled standard CAD software to be used by CWP designers. This approach also allowed new designs to be realized either in coplanar waveguide or microstrip with very little modification, increasing the usefulness of the design effort. Another benefit of this approach was that it gave CPW designers access to a large historical microstrip, design database. The design and layout rules focus mainly on preserving equipotential ground planes throughout the circuit, which is necessary to avoid unwanted modes of propagation and standing waves. It is easy to produce slot modes in CPW and they can readily propagate in poorly designed circuits. The rest of the rules cover tuning techniques, tuning circuits and fault finding techniques, which is particularly important in large integrated assemblies.<
