Project planning for EMS and SCADA systems

A typical supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system or an energy management system (EMS) has an installed life of only 10 to 15 years. Because it can take five years or more to implement a new EMS or SCADA system, managing such projects is becoming a way of life for utilities. Project planning for EMS and SCADA systems is described. A preliminary project schedule that encompasses three major phases is discussed. These phases, project definition, procurement, and implementation, are detailed.<
