Quantitative measurement of mechanical stress in resins and its effect on electrical treeing

The Shibuya fictive force model provides an appropriate method of estimating the sign and magnitude of the mechanical stress that occurs at the pin tip in pin-plane synthetic resin samples used to model electrical breakdown characteristics. The authors have illustrated how the quantifiable stress distribution along the pin axis direction in the pin/plane region modifies the breakdown characteristics and in particular shown how a region of zero stress can act as a barrier to tree growth.<
