Comparison of service test results with analytical predictions for a lead acid battery

An analytical method for predicting battery terminal voltage versus time for a given duty cycle has been used for many years in the industry. The author presents the results of eight years of service tests in comparison with the analytical method of predicting battery terminal voltages for a given duty cycle. The analytical method is reviewed first. Because of the differences between laboratory test conditions and actual service conditions in the field, correction factors are discussed for battery ageing, temperature, and manufacturer-supplied data. It is concluded that the analytical method can be used to predict the terminal voltage of a battery during discharge within acceptable limits.<
