Superconducting stabilized X-band oscillators

Two X-band oscillators have been designed, built, and tested. Superconducting films of both Y/sub 1/Ba/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub x/ (YBCO) and Tl/sub 2/Ba/sub 2/Ca/sub 1/Cu/sub 2/O/sub 1/ (TBCCO) were used. The films were grown by laser ablation. A resonator was patterned in each of the high-temperature superconducting (HTSC) films to stabilize two X-band oscillators. The reaction-type oscillator uses a YBaCuO HTSC ring resonator and the parallel feedback oscillator uses a thallium-based HTSC half-wavelength resonator with an unloaded Q=21000. The design and development of these oscillators and characteristics of HTSC resonators are discussed.<
