Bonneville Power Administration study of wind effects on conductors for span factors

For seven years, the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) collected data from seven sites in the Pacific Northwest to investigate the relationship between the measured and theoretical wind loads on transmission conductors. The purpose of the study was to gain information which would enhance transmission line design methods and criteria. An overview of the study and the results associated with the calculation and analysis of the wind adjustment factor based on the data collected at the seven sites is presented. The impact of variables such as conductor height, span length, and conductor diameter, and surface roughness on this relationship is examined.<
