Performance analysis of interference and noise limited cellular land mobile radio

A model is developed to evaluate the performance of cellular land mobile radio systems with fast Rayleigh fading and Gaussian noise. Cochannel interference probability is derived, considering UHF ground-wave path loss, Rayleigh fading, and thermal noise. To reduce the cochannel interference probability, two types of diversity technique are considered: selection diversity and equal gain combining. Spectrum efficiency is also evaluated in terms of cochannel interference probability, cluster size (i.e., reuse distance), protection ratio, and blocking probability. Although the implementation of equal gain combining is much simpler than that of selection diversity, its performance is superior to that of selection diversity.<
