Compact, spectrally smooth, nanosecond infrared continuum source with 700 nm bandwidth

We demonstrate the generation of a 700-nm-wide, nanosecond, infrared continuum using a compact, passively Q-switched laser pumped by a 1.2 W diode and a novel photonic crystal fiber with zero dispersion near 1550 nm.
