The voice/data integrator

The authors present an architecture in which the realization and benefits of an integrated services network can be achieved utilizing the existing equipment currently being deployed. It is suggested that the voice/data integrator (VDI) will play a significant role in achieving this goal while providing the capability to share transmission resources more effectively in the near term. Features discussed include the modular design of subscriber and trunk interfaces and the VDI implementation of the Senet (slotted envelope network) protocol. The defense-switched-network/defense-data-network applications of the VDI are discussed in detail. The specific advantages of the VDI are listed.<
