The influence of codopants and fabrication conditions on germanium defects in optical fiber preforms

The GeE' defect concentration in MCVD germanosilicate preforms, as measured by cathodoluminescence profiles, is dramatically reduced by the addition of phosphorus as a codopant. The GeE' concentration is increased by using higher deposition temperatures and oxygen deficient conditions.<
